St. Philip Roman Catholic Church will have a religious art and music exhibit on Friday through Sunday, September 6-8. Local artists will display their original Christian art creations throughout the weekend. Displays will feature; carvings, statuary, pottery-ceramics, quilts, paintings, sketching, cards-stationary, printed materials, iconography, devotional items, and historical treasures of the parish. The exhibits will be in the parish center, high school, or the church sanctuary.
“Patronage of the arts has long been a vital work of the Church, celebrating God’s gifts through artistic expression. St. Philip Catholic Church is proud to continue this legacy in Battle Creek,” said Father James Richardson, pastor of St. Philip.
Throughout the weekend there will be religious and classical musical performances. Omar Padilla, St. Philip’s new director of music, will perform two pipe organ concerts, one on Friday and another on Saturday evening in the Church (see attached photo). Ruah, a group from Kalamazoo, will perform Christian liturgical music in Spanish and English. Other performances will include liturgical and classical guitar, piano, choral, and dance. A variety of food trucks will be on-site during the exhibit.
Louie Helal of Detroit will return to St. Philip to display and offer for sale his line of olive wood religious carvings from Jerusalem. His carvings have been popular with visitors and customers in the past.
