For the past 30 years, volunteers have provided a nutritious hot meal to anyone who shows up hungry on Sunday afternoons between 4 and 5 o'clock at St. Philip Catholic Church. Between 65 and 125 diners sign in at the door each week and sit down to a hot nutritious meal. The group is very diverse in age, race and family make up; most arrive on foot.
There are 5 different crews of volunteers who are responsible for their assigned Sunday. Each crew, which is made up of 5-10 people, coordinates their meal including: ordering and picking up the food from the Food Bank, preparing and serving the meal, and cleanup of the space. In addition, many students from various high schools and colleges volunteer throughout the year.
Sunday Supper is funded by donations which go directly to the Food Bank of South Central Michigan and to the St. Vincent DePaul Society who provide supplies and consumable goods which are not available at the Food Bank. If you are interested in contributing funds to this important work you may send a check directly to the Food Bank indicating St. Philip Sunday Supper as the beneficiary or send a check to the Parrish office labeled Sunday Supper.
